Statement on the Status of Hüseyin Baybaşin
“The recent developments regarding Hüseyin Baybaşin, who has been imprisoned in the Netherlands for more than 30 years, have deeply affected not only his family and close circle, but also the international legal public.

"The recent developments regarding Hüseyin Baybaşin, who has been imprisoned in the Netherlands for more than 30 years, deeply worry not only his family and close circle, but also the international legal community. The absolute communication ban imposed on Baybaşin since April 24 and the lack of information about his whereabouts since May 1 are unacceptable in modern states of law.

The root of this systematic oppression against Hüseyin Baybaşin and the extent of isolation he has reached today lies in his unwavering commitment to the Kurdish people's struggle for freedom. Baybaşin is a person who devoted his life to defending the rights of the Kurdish people and their struggle for identity. All this legal drama and aggravated conditions he is experiencing are actually a practice of punishment for his political stance.

In particular, the pressure policies carried out by the Turkish State using its international diplomatic relations caused the Baybaşin case to turn into a political hostage crisis rather than a legal process.

Completely severing a person's ties with his lawyers, his family, and the world is not just a punishment, it is a grave attack on human dignity. Every prisoner;
Providing information about health status,
Knowing its location,
Lawyer and family visitation rights,
It is under the guarantee of international agreements and the principle of universality of law.

Today's deprivation of Hüseyin Baybaşin's rights is a clear violation of the universal transparency principle of the law.
The picture we face today is not just the usurpation of an individual's rights; It is a reflection of the rule of law, human rights and the oppression policies implemented against representatives of the Kurdish people.

Dutch authorities must immediately make an official statement about Hüseyin Baybaşin's situation and ensure immediate access to him by his family and lawyers.

We call on human rights defenders, everyone who is in favor of law and justice, democratic mass organizations, institutions and the conscientious public to stand against this blatant lawlessness and also to show sensitivity towards this punitive policy carried out on the basis of Kurdish identity.
